Jobelle's Cottage

Jobelle's Cottage sits on Cedar Road in Ocracoke village, the cluster of homes, shops, and restaurants built up around Silver Lake Harbor at the island's southwest tip. It's a straightforward vacation rental on a residential street, putting you within walking or biking distance of the harbor without dropping you in the middle of the summer crowds.

Getting Here

Ocracoke has no bridge or road connection to the rest of the Outer Banks — you arrive by boat. The free North Carolina ferry from Hatteras village takes about an hour, while the longer toll ferries from Cedar Island or Swan Quarter on the mainland run around two and a quarter hours each way. Worth building into your trip timing, especially in summer when the boats fill up.

Around the Village

From Cedar Road, the village's landmarks are an easy walk or short bike ride away: Springer's Point's maritime forest, tied to the island's Blackbeard history, the 1823 Ocracoke Lighthouse (a striking sight up close, though it's never been open for climbing), and the seafood spots and shops clustered near Silver Lake. Head north on NC-12 and you'll reach the fenced pasture where the island's wild ponies are kept, along with the numbered beach-access ramps into the undeveloped stretch of Cape Hatteras National Seashore that makes up most of the island.
