Ocean Pines is a vacation rental property on Duck Road, right in Duck — the small, walkable town that sits on the quieter, more upscale end of the Outer Banks' northern beaches.

Duck's draw is its scale: a soundside boardwalk along Currituck Sound, independent shops and restaurants within an easy walk, and a slower pace than the busier beaches south of here. A rental at Ocean Pines puts guests close to that walkable core, with the wider northern beaches easy to reach from there — Corolla's historic district, anchored by the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the Whalehead Club, sits a short drive north, along with the Pine Island Audubon Sanctuary between the two towns.

Peak season runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, when Duck's shops and restaurants are in full swing. April, May, September, and October bring the same setting with fewer crowds and milder weather — a good stretch for travelers who want Duck without the summer density. Hurricane season runs June through November, with the higher-risk window in August through October, worth keeping in mind when booking a rental stay on the barrier island.

We’re here the first week of March and there are only 4 cars here. It’s so quiet. Our experience here has been quite positive. The front desk has met our every need ( extra blankets, for instance) and are very friendly. The unit is very clean, including the carpet which has been well maintained. No big stains. Not a bug in sight! The kitchen is well stocked with stainless steel cookware. The bed is comfortable with soft sheets. I’m a sheet snob and won’t sleep on hard sheets. We have an ocean view unit. The pool and hot tub were wonderful! The resort is older but the unit has charm, which I like. Tons of closets. Be aware, there are no elevators. We will definitely come back because our stay has been such a positive experience!

Absolutely loved it there. The location is beautiful because you have the beach on one end and can see the Sound on the other. So close to the adorable Duck shops. We felt safe in the family friendly environment. Rooms are clean, comfortable, & well-built. The beach access, activities area & pool were lovely. We loved the swings in the trees area too. We didn’t get to swim this time, but the pool looked so clean. The staff are phenomenal and went above and beyond for us, especially sweet to our little girl. For our family vacations this is going to be our go to for OBX.

Highly do not recommend. We booked through VRBO and were set to check in on Wednesday afternoon, they contacted us on Tuesday at 8:30 pm telling us our room was double booked and we no longer had a place to stay. When I contacted Ocean Pines to confirm (because VRBO contact us about the cancellation) they said we did not have a booking and they couldn't help us. Extremely unprofessional.

Rooms are large and updated! Our room overlooked the dunes and ocean. Two bedrooms- one with 2 twin beds, one with a king bed, 2 bathrooms, dining room w/fireplace, fully-equipped kitchen, living room, and access to balcony from living room and bedroom. The view was everything and more that I had hoped for! We were here in December to celebrate our anniversary, and I would love to make it a yearly trip! IMPORTANT-LOTS OF STEPS!!!

I will start with these apartments have so much potential. They are poorly kept and management is terrible. They are very outdated. They are up for sale so I guess the owners don't care. We came 16 hours away and was going to make the trip in 2 day but called ahead to see if we could check in a day early and just drive straight thru. They told us come ahead and comped our first night. We thought wow thats awesome. We arrived at 1030pm. Our place was not oceanfront like it was suppose to be and had not been cleaned from the previous person. We called the after hours number multiole times and never got a return call. We had no choice but to lay on the concrete couches and try not to touch anything for the night. Early morning came and a gentleman came to door and apologized. He gave my husband a set of keys to "our best unit and view of the ocean" Still trying to make the best of it we started loading our stuff to move. The man came back and swapped the keys for another set.We were put in an oceanfront that stared right at the back of the dunes. The place is dirty and smells. We had to go by febreeze and plug in air freshener. The indoor pool and hot tub were inaccessible and out of order the whole trip. The grounds are dirty and unkempt. The potential for this place is there and I hope new owners get it that will see that.
