Oscar's House Bed & Breakfast sits on Irvin Garrish Highway in Ocracoke village, an easy walk from Silver Lake Harbor and the shops, restaurants, and docks clustered around it. It's a small-scale, in-town option for travelers who'd rather stay close to the harbor than out along the undeveloped stretch of NC-12 toward the beach.

Getting to Ocracoke

There's no bridge or road link to the rest of the Outer Banks. Most visitors arrive on the free NC ferry from Hatteras village (about an hour), though longer toll ferries also run from Cedar Island and Swan Quarter on the mainland (roughly 2.25 hours each). Reserve your ferry crossing before you settle anything else about the trip, and if you're traveling during hurricane season — June through November, with the real risk window in August, September, and October — keep an eye on the forecast, since evacuations and ferry suspensions happen on Ocracoke more readily than almost anywhere else on the Outer Banks.

Once you're in the village, Silver Lake Harbor, the Ocracoke Lighthouse, and Springer's Point are all within walking or easy biking distance, with the island's beaches and the pony pasture a short drive north on NC-12.

We love this place; the only reason we haven't stayed there for each year we've gone is because they were all booked up the once. I've already made a point to book for next year. Robin and Chad are so kind and welcoming, breakfast is delicious, and it's walking distance from everything on this end of the island. They even have a private outdoor shower for when you come back sandy from the beach. There's a little back deck too, and a common room. It's clean, well kept, and so cute. This used to be the lighthouse keeper's house! He's still around, sometimes, but Captain Joe is one of the friendliest ghosts on the island.

We were booked for one night over Easter weekend. However, there was a nor’easter brewing just south of the island and the ferry to Hatteras was shut down for nearly three days. We came over from Hatteras on our bike and left the car in Hatteras so needed to get back to continue our trip. Chad and Robin were extremely accommodating and let us stay another two nights at a discounted rate. Once the ferry opened up on Tuesday, they quickly drove us and our tandem bike up to the ferry landing to make sure we got the ferry before another shutdown. They could not have been more accommodating! The breakfast each morning was delightful and allowed us to use the private living room all Monday during the storm! They are conveniently located within walking distance of everything in town and also have beach bikes for us to use. We would be delighted to return some day. Harry

Robin and Chad were wonderful hosts for me and my son. Their cute cozy cottage home is so comfortable, peaceful, warm and welcoming! The breakfast was delish and the beds will promise you the best sleep you've had in a long time! We loved exploring the island with their beach bikes as well! What a nice surprise! So glad we found them! We'll be back! 5 Stars from us!

Robin & Chad were amazing! I felt at home. They treat you like family & make your stay comfortable! The house, along with the bedrooms and bathrooms, are super clean and tidy! Chad makes a killer breakfast--his banana bread french toast is to die for. The biscuit breakfast & meal pictured below was delicious!

First time staying on the Island and we had such a wonderful time. Chad and Robin are such gracious hosts and gave some great recommendations for restaurants. Chad's breakfasts were delicious and the easy conversations around the table made for very enjoyable mornings. We definitely will be back. Thanks Chad and Robin:)
