Pierhouse BnB

A Kill Devil Hills vacation rental on the Beach Road, minutes from the sand and Wright Brothers history

Kill Devil Hills, NC

About

Pierhouse BnB sits right on N Virginia Dare Trail — the Beach Road that runs along the ocean side of Kill Devil Hills — putting guests within an easy walk of public beach access and the local restaurants and shops that line this stretch of the northern Outer Banks. The listing is managed by Sandbar Beach Rentals as part of their Kill Devil Hills portfolio, so despite the name, it's set up and booked as a vacation rental rather than a traditional owner-run inn.

Kill Devil Hills is the historic heart of the Outer Banks — this is the town where the Wright brothers made the first powered flight in 1903, and the Wright Brothers National Memorial sits a short drive from the beach road. Jockey's Ridge State Park and the restaurants and shops of Nags Head are a quick trip south, while Kitty Hawk's grocery stores and everyday services are just north — the whole stretch runs along the connected Beach Road and Croatan Highway corridor.

Peak season runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, when this part of the Beach Road is busiest; April, May, September, and October offer quieter, milder alternatives for a stay at this address. Contact Sandbar Beach Rentals directly for availability and rate details.

I thought I was fine overlooking some of the minor issues, but so many stacked up means I would not stay here again and would honestly recommend against it. My family of three stayed in the Pier Breeze room, which was a bit of a disappointment since there were three other unoccupied rooms with deck access (or more space) that were unoccupied. The rooms are assigned after booking, so not like I booked this specific room. The room itself was nice enough with a full sized bath, just would have liked a deck room to enjoy the view. The "continental breakfast" was extremely disappointing. The same boiled eggs were put out 2 days in a row, each time left out for over 2 hours before being put back in the fridge and served the next day. Cheap chocolate chip granola bars, instant oatmeal, bagels/English muffins, bananas/apples/grapes, and yogurt were offered. Not terrible, but there's no stove so wouldn't expect much else. Maybe better quality options. The cleaning staff were unfriendly and impolite. I called the contact info to report the pool water level was below the filter and the pumps weren't working, AND to ask for a late checkout. They sent out a servicer quickly, within 20 minutes (awesome). They also said a 12pm checkout was okay. I walked away from the interaction thinking the responsiveness and accommodation was great. Then came checkout day. I was rudely texted at 11am saying checkout was 10am and the cleaner (who was already on property, being quietly rude) was waiting to clean the room. I am extremely disappointed that management failed to write down the agreement AND forget to tell the cleaner. I wanted to like this place but its the little things that are supposed to make Bnb's better than hotels. This place was not it.

We had an amazing time at the Pierhouse BnB in the Outer Banks! The location is absolutely ideal—peaceful, scenic, and just steps from everything we wanted to explore. Visiting during the off-season turned out to be the perfect choice. We happened to be there during the seafood fest which was great to check out and did a day trip to Manteo. Would also definitely recommend lost colony brewery and goombays! The atmosphere was calm and relaxing, exactly what we were looking for. The property is well-maintained and full of charm, and staying in the deckside room, which had a lovely balcony and great sunsets. If you’re looking for a quiet getaway with unbeatable location and comfort, Pierhouse is it.

The owners/ house managers were not nice at all. Honestly they were very rude. The house smelled HEAVILY of mildew. The shower was still dirty from a previous guest there was still a bar of soap and a dirty towel in the shower. The location is nice but for the price it’s not worth it imo *edit. We paid for the room! When I called the owner to simply ask them to explain what happened with the rooms bc my “baby girlfriends” weren’t explaining it to me. The owner was SO rude and wouldn’t explain anything (even though I was trying to pay for the separate room myself) To accuse us of theft is WILD. We paid for 2 rooms AND the upgrade fee. And let’s not forget the bathroom that wasn’t cleaned. DONT STAY HERE!!!!!!
