Cottage-style vacation rentals on Kitty Hawk's Beach Road, close to it all without the crowds

About

Saltaire Cottages puts you in a cottage-style vacation rental right on N Virginia Dare Trail in Kitty Hawk, the quieter of the three towns that make up the northern Outer Banks' main beach corridor. Instead of a hotel room, you get a house to yourself for the stay, with the Atlantic a short walk east and Kitty Hawk Bay and the sound side just as close to the west.

Location

Kitty Hawk sits at the north end of the Beach Road/US-158 run that continues south through Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head, so a few minutes in the car puts you at Jockey's Ridge State Park, the Wright Brothers National Memorial, and the bulk of the area's restaurants, grocery stores, and shops. It's a good fit for travelers who want a self-contained cottage stay without giving up easy access to the rest of the corridor.

  • Cottage-style rentals booked directly through Saltaire Cottages' own site
  • Address on N Virginia Dare Trail (Beach Road) in Kitty Hawk
  • Minutes from Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head via US-158

Kitty Hawk, like the rest of this stretch of the Outer Banks, doesn't allow beach driving — that's a Hatteras Island thing further south — so figure on parking and walking to the sand. Shoulder season (April–May, September–October) tends to be the easiest stretch to book a cottage here, with peak summer weeks filling up well ahead of Memorial Day.

We had a lovely stay in Cottage 4. The screened-in porch was the best, I spent most of my time there when I wasn't at the beach (which was across the street and beautiful). Rooms were clean with everything we needed. Plenty of parking. We had an issue with the keypad and Amanda helped us right away. Will definitely stay here again!

We stayed in unit 2 the weekend of 7/17-19. The cottage was very clean and inviting. The bed was very comfortable, and while the bathroom is very small, it was very clean. If you need a lot of bathroom counter space, this might not be the place for you, however it was perfect for our weekend getaway. The beach access was just a short walk across the street and the pool was a nice option for an evening dip. We loved the location and being able to walk to a few restaurants was the icing on the cake. Overall we had a great time and will absolutely stay here again!

We stayed at Saltaire Cottages for four nights in Cottage 15. It was a lovely stay, and we would certainly stay again. The location is very good - being next to food and desserts - and the pool was big and clean. The beach access was also nice. The owners are quick to respond, too, if something comes up. There can be a lot of noise from the other cottages, so if you're looking for a quiet getaway, this may not be the place. But if you're okay with your neighbors living it up, it is a great option for you.

What a Gem! we have been staying here for almost 30 yrs nd have seen several owners over the years. By far Amanda and Dan have brought his place back up to todays standards. They are truly warm and great people. The rooms are cozy and bright and very clean! Access to the beach as many have stated is directly across the street. The pool is a must for us and my large group. This year we had 4 full units. The staff is superb and we are always greeted with hugs and smiles. I do not know how they keep the girls coming back each year but they must be doing something right!!. We prefer these type of accommodations as opposed to a Mc Mansion or stuffy motel or hotel rooms. These units are unique and it allows us (a large group )to gather together around he pool or at the beach and then go back to our individual units, with our own kitchens and porches. Saltaire is like the old days of going to the beach, quaint little units and the charm of old school digs and your basic needs. They do have a house and some larger cottages, but we stay in our 2 bedroom units every time. Gosh I almost do not want to spoil our little secret in Kitty hawk but it is catching on!. Thanks for another great stay and we look forward to Next year!! ( our stay was June 13th -20th). Regards, George Gregory and the CLE Crew......

We stayed at Saltaire cottages for a quick family getaway and we loved it! The cottage was very clean and the sleeping arrangements for 6 of us were great and having two bathrooms was a plus. The location to the beach was very convenient, just a quick walk across the street, so we could walk back quickly to use the restroom or make lunch. It was also within walking distance to restaurants. The staff was amazing, responsive to emails and checking in upon arrival. I had ordered two beach umbrellas and they were already on the screened in porch when we got there. They have a pool but we didn't use it because we spent our time on the beach. We would definitely stay here again.
