Sea Foam Motel

A no-frills motel stay along Nags Head's oceanside Beach Road corridor

(394)
Nags Head, NC

About

Sea Foam Motel sits on S Virginia Dare Trail — the Beach Road corridor that runs along the ocean side of Nags Head — putting guests close to the Atlantic without having to cross Croatan Highway traffic to reach the sand. This stretch of the northern Outer Banks has long been lined with small, straightforward motel-style properties built near the dune line, geared toward simple, convenient beach trips rather than a resort-style stay.

The location puts guests within easy reach of the rest of Nags Head and the surrounding towns. Jockey's Ridge State Park — home to the tallest natural sand dune system on the East Coast — is a short drive north, and the Wright Brothers National Memorial in neighboring Kill Devil Hills isn't far either. Restaurants, beach shops, and fishing piers are spread along the Beach Road and Croatan Highway corridor in both directions, so having a car makes it easy to reach most of what this end of the Outer Banks has to offer.

As with many smaller properties on this stretch, expect a basic, no-frills stay focused on beach access rather than extensive amenities. Contact the property directly by phone or through its website to confirm room details, availability, and current rates before booking — particularly if you're planning a visit during the busy summer months.

It’s an older motel and you can tell but the beds are very comfortable, the rooms are large and come with a kitchen, staff is friendly, and the location can’t be beat. I could see the ac units struggling to keep up if it’s mid 90s, but that wouldn’t stop my from staying here again.

Great hotel. Perfect for vacations and relaxation. Awesome location right by the beach and an exceptional amount of restaurants nearby. The bathrooms should get an upgrade but overall a great hotel. Also go crab searching at night.

Cool vintage place. Room and bathrooms were very clean. Like any place more than 2 weeks old at the beach, there is some wear and tear, especially in a place that is 80 years old, nothing bad. Pool was clean, awesome beach access. We had a great time and the manager was super nice and accommodating. We would definitely stay again.

The Sea Foam's location is excellent, the staff were helpful and welcoming, the rooms were quite clean even if dated - but you came here for the old world charm and retro appeal, right? Very fair pricing, dog-friendly and access to the beach couldn't have been any better. However the exterior badly needs a lick of new paint...supposedly visibly needed renovations are planned for next year.

I love everything about the Sea Foam Motel. It was built in 1948 and feels as if it has remained exactly as is, frozen in time. We always stay in the ocean front rooms, which allow you to walk out directly to the beach. The staff are friendly, the rooms are clean, and you can’t get any closer to the beach!
