Sea Gull Motel sits on NC-12 in Hatteras village, the southernmost of Hatteras Island's villages, just up the road from where NC-12 ends at the ferry terminal for the run to Ocracoke Island. It's a small, straightforward motel property, booked through the Kees Vacations rental program rather than run with its own independent front desk — a common arrangement for older motels along this part of the Outer Banks.

The location puts guests close to Hatteras village's charter fishing docks and within easy driving distance of the rest of Cape Hatteras National Seashore, which runs north through Frisco, Buxton, and Avon. Like the rest of Hatteras Island, this stretch is narrow and exposed compared to the core Outer Banks beaches further north, and NC-12 is the only road connecting it to the mainland — it can close during tropical weather, so checking current road conditions before a summer or fall visit is worth doing.

The location on the beach was great. The pool was clean. The rooms were clean and no odor. I only have two minor complaints. The remote to the TV did not allow you to change the volume (had to manually press the buttons on the TV) and, as others have mentioned, there are no blackout curtains. The sun blinded us every morning at 630am. Other than that, great stay for the price.

Stayed here one night. Should have stayed longer. I was surprised how clean this place is. It's right next to the beach. Love it!

This vacation was okay until the barking began. We have been enduring yelps and barks. Messages to the hotel about this are being ignored. They don't pick up the phone either. Poor service. The walls are thin. This isn't a good choice because they allow dogs and then do NOTHING when those dogs ruin other PAYING CUSTOMERS' vacations. Do yourself a favor and go where they care!

This is a bummer. The place is old. Which I was ok with. But the photos online are not what is going on here. No office. Takes forever for them to contact you back after reaching out. The pool is so gross. It is “open”, but very swamp-like. They have “allowed” us to use the pool facility at another one of their properties a mile away. Which was debacle trying to get the gate code for. The room had to have a dehumidifier brought in. The tub will not drain without holding the drain open manually. So we couldn’t use the shower for two days. I will not be staying here again. I paid a lot of Mo eu when I could have paid a little bit more for nicer place. The bed has seen better days. Mattress is old and worn out. Overall it has not been a very good experience. Staff has tried some things to make it better. And I do appreciate the effort. But we are not really happy with it not being what was presented to us. Beware of these reviews! They’re not lying!
