The Cypress Moon Inn is a vacation rental on Harbor Ct in Kitty Hawk, the northernmost of the three beach towns that make up this stretch of the Outer Banks and the first one you reach coming off the Wright Memorial Bridge. Despite the name, this is a private rental property rather than a staffed inn or hotel, so expect the flexibility — and self-sufficiency — that comes with a standalone house rather than front-desk service.

Kitty Hawk runs quieter than Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head to the south — less commercial strip, more residential side streets — while still putting you within easy driving distance of everything along US-158 and the Beach Road corridor, including Jockey's Ridge and the shopping and restaurants clustered further down toward Nags Head. The town also carries the historical weight of the Wright Brothers' 1903 flight, even though the actual dunes where they flew sit just south in Kill Devil Hills.

Our stay at Cypress Moon Inn was idyllic! The home is close to amenities. Cocooned on a large waterfront lot in a haven of trees, you feel miles way from the bustle. Upon arrival, Linda warmly greeted us and ensured our comfort before offering a dinner suggestion. Ocean Boulevard was a spot-on recommendation! The next morning Greg shared local knowledge of the greater Outer Banks region. We followed several of his suggestions, resulting in an engaging and lovely day of exploration. The home is filled with charm. We enjoyed early mornings on the deck, feeling in-tune with nature. We spent evenings playing some of the board games the Inn keeps onsite. Overall a wonderful trip with equally gracious hosts. Thank you!

This is the place I picked out for my honeymoon. What made me choose this gorgeous handmade inn is the fantastic views. With a convenient location, friendly host, clean and stocked rooms; this was the perfect place for me and my husband. Romantic and full of charm you can find that each room is uniquely defined while also continuous fit each other's style. The shared porch does have it's private space. Private and scenic with a great connection to the wildlife of the outer banks. I love the animals that you can find around the inn like deer. Thank you the stay we will be back!
