Our stay at the Sanderling was just what we needed to relax and recharge. You can’t fault them for the heavy rain that we experienced when we were there, but I just wish there were more rainy day activities to partake in on the property. Perhaps cover a bocce court or something? Have a game room? But when the sun was out, it was just magic.
The real highlight, however, was Theodosia. We booked our stay based on our plans to go to the restaurant after hearing great things and boy, we were blown away. General Manager Lori Grow set up a wonderful evening for us, welcoming us warmly and inviting us to have a drink at the bar while we waited for our incredible table during sunset, right at the windows. She touched tables just enough with real concern to ensure we were having a great experience and enjoying everything. It was an unforgettable evening with amazing food, cocktails, wine, service and company. The wine list is a real gem with lots of reasonably-priced interesting bottles, and the cocktail list goes above and beyond. Love that the list pays homage to local history and lore.
We would return for Theodosia on its own but were delighted by the amazing beach, views, decor and barefoot elegance of this special place.
We had a great stay at The Sanderling Resort in Duck during our visit in August! The property is beautiful, the location is excellent, and the atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing Outer Banks getaway.
The staff was friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our stay, and everything felt well maintained and thoughtfully cared for. We especially enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and easy access to everything Duck has to offer.
Our August visit was a great experience from start to finish and we would recommend The Sanderling Resort to anyone visiting the Outer Banks. We will definitely be back!
Had a wonderful experience at The Sanderling Resort! The staff went over the top to make my wife & I’s stay as comfortable as possible. They even brought fruit to the room which was a nice touch.
The beach access was the main reason we chose the resort but the staff is what ended up making the stay so special. You can tell they take great pride in their customer service. Our room was cleaned daily, they were so kind. Any time we walked by in the lobby and asked if there was anything else we needed.
Would recommend this Resort to anyone looking to stay in the area, will definitely be back!
Sanderling Spa
I was really looking forward to this experience since it was a special gift for someone, but unfortunately, the customer service left us disappointed.
Before our appointment, we called several times to let the spa know we were running about 4–7 minutes late. No one answered our calls, and when someone finally did, we were told that the missed time would simply be taken off our massage. We understood the policy, but it was frustrating considering we made every effort to notify them in advance.
When we arrived , there didn’t appear to be any other clients waiting… it was just us on a weekday. I even asked if there was an option to purchase additional time or add-ons to make up for the shortened massage, but the front desk associate immediately said no. Given that the spa wasn’t busy, I was hoping for a little flexibility.
The front desk staff also came across as quite rude and dismissive. I was polite throughout the interaction, and because this was meant to be a special present, I was hoping for a more welcoming and understanding experience.
A little kindness and consideration would have gone a long way. We weren’t asking for special treatment, we simply tried to communicate ahead of time and hoped for a bit of flexibility. Unfortunately, the customer service didn’t match the relaxing experience we were expecting.
Stayed here for 3 nights over a weekend in early June for a mini-moon after getting married earlier in the week. Was hesitant in some regards due to some poor reviews I read, but I can honestly say we had an amazing experience! Beautiful room with a great bathroom, extremely friendly staff, clean and well kept property. I think it gets ‘tired’ reviews because the buildings are all unfinished wood
- but that’s the look! It blends in softly with the dunes and surroundings and gives it an unassuming look. Would certainly recommend for couples trips or families with small kids - we saw many of those! Lots of dogs too which we love to see!
Great amenities as well - daily workout classes, beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas plentiful for your use, complimentary waters in your room… list goes on.
We loved that we didn’t have to leave the property to enjoy some meals - beach bar, life saving station, Theodosia, and Paper Canoe up the street. True resort experience!
