The Sanderling Resort sits on Duck Road on the northern end of the Outer Banks' barrier island, where the strip of land narrows to dunes and marsh between the Atlantic and Currituck Sound. Location

Duck's own village — the soundside boardwalk, boutique shops, and restaurants that give the town its quieter, upscale reputation — is a short drive south on Duck Road. Head north instead and you are headed toward Corolla's historic district, where the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the Whalehead Club sit inside Currituck Heritage Park. Either direction is an easy trip from the resort, which makes it a workable base for exploring both towns without relocating mid-stay.

When to Go

Peak season here runs Memorial Day through Labor Day, when the beaches and Duck Road traffic both fill up. Shoulder season — April and May, or September and October — tends to be the better match for a resort-and-spa trip: quieter grounds, milder weather, and easier reservations at the restaurants down in the village. Keep hurricane season in mind if you are booking for August through October, and check the forecast as your dates approach.

We just spent a wonderful weekend at the Sanderling resort and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating and we felt well taken care of throughout our visit. We look forward to returning for another visit soon.

This is, by far, my favorite resort in the Outer Banks. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our entire stay, always making sure we had everything we needed. We stayed in one of the houses on the resort, and the service was truly outstanding. Whether we needed extra towels, waters, cocktails, or simply wanted the trash taken out, the team was on top of it within minutes of our request. That level of attentiveness really made our stay feel effortless and special. The resort itself is beautiful and has such a relaxing atmosphere. The location is perfect, with easy access to the beach, close proximity to town, lawn games, and, of course, the fire pits. The entire property is beautifully maintained, and you can tell that no detail goes unnoticed. What really stood out to us was the level of hospitality. Everyone we interacted with genuinely seemed to care about making our stay enjoyable. It felt less like simply staying at a hotel and more like being truly taken care of. We would absolutely recommend The Sanderling to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in the Outer Banks. We had a fantastic experience and are already looking forward to coming back!

Wow, what can I say? This place was amazing! From the moment we arrived, we were impressed. We stayed in one of the houses, and it had more than enough space for our group of five. As soon as we made our way to the beach, the staff was incredibly friendly and eager to help, quickly setting up chairs and umbrellas for us. The service throughout our stay was outstanding. The snacks at the Sandbar were delicious, and there was nothing better than enjoying them with an ice-cold beer by the beach. Everything about this place made it easy to relax and enjoy ourselves. It was so hard to leave, but we're already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a wonderful getaway!
