White Doe Inn sits on Sir Walter Raleigh Street in the heart of downtown Manteo, the walkable waterfront town that anchors Roanoke Island's history. Guests are close enough to Shallowbag Bay to wander down for dinner or an evening walk along the water, with the shops and restaurants of Manteo's compact downtown just outside the door.
The inn makes a solid home for exploring Roanoke Island's historic sites — Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Elizabethan Gardens, and the Waterside Theatre, home to The Lost Colony outdoor drama — all clustered on the island's north end, a short distance from downtown by car. Roanoke Island Festival Park, with its recreated 16th-century ship and hands-on museum, sits just across the water in downtown Manteo — one of the easiest historic stops to reach from the inn.
This corner of the Outer Banks carries a different weight than the beach towns to the east — it's where England's first attempt at a permanent New World colony vanished in the 1580s without a confirmed explanation, a mystery historians still haven't resolved. Staying downtown puts that history, plus Manteo's waterfront dining and shopping, within easy reach.

We had a fantastic stay here. The Inn is gorgeous, the gardens are beautifully maintained and the owners and staff are gracious in every way. We will be back! We slept in the most beautiful ( ROMANTIC) bed I’ve ever seen.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights for a short getaway primarily to see the Lost Colony Play. The White Doe Inn is in a very convenient location for the play, and all the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. You can walk, drive or borrow one of their bikes to downtown Manteo for some great restaurants or just walk the boardwalk along the waterfront. Happy hour each day was a nice touch with wine and cheese and a great way to meet your fellow guests. The breakfast each day was also very good and not just you regular bacon and eggs. Our room was very nice and the king size bed was very comfortable. Our room had a separate small TV room in case one wants to sleep and the other wants to watch TV. Our room had a big clawfoot tub with vintage exposed pipes. Pretty cool to look at but If you have mobility issues you may want to ask if other rooms have a different setup. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and would not hesitate to recommend to our friends.

Great experience all around! No complaints. Best of the OBX! From the hosts, to the accomodations, to the location, the service, and all the little unexpected extras (i.e. fresh baked cookies daily, coffee/espresso/tea bar, happy hour at 4:30 , frig in room with option to order wine, litlle balcony off of bedroom area, not to mention the delicious breakfasts every morning prepared by culinary chef/owner Tonia, just a stellar experience! If you go to the OBX, this is the place to stay❤️❤️❤️Definitely coming back!

My wife and I recently spent two nights at The White Doe Inn for our anniversary, and the entire experience was nothing short of flawless. From the moment we arrived until the moment we checked out, it was a true five-star stay. The owners and operators, David and Tonia Roberts, are entirely hands-on, remaining on-site every step of the way and taking personal responsibility for the enjoyment of their guests. The culinary experience alone is worth the trip. Each morning begins with a beautiful "2x2" breakfast—two perfectly curated courses featuring two items per course. Chef Tonia is incredibly talented; she crafted delicious entrees that won me over entirely, making even the items I normally avoid, like yogurt and grits, absolutely delectable. In the afternoon, guests are treated to a lighter fare of charcuterie and wine. While I am not a wine drinker myself, Tonia went out of her way to ensure my personal drink of choice was readily available so I never felt left out. One of the absolute highlights of our stay was the natural, welcoming environment the inn fosters for its guests. Just off the foyer is a quiet sitting area that naturally brings couples together. My wife and I had a wonderful time relaxing there and talking with the other guests, learning all about their careers, travels, and hometowns. David even joined us for about thirty minutes to talk and offer dinner recommendations for us all. As for the accommodations, our room was pristine. It was exceptionally clean and well-maintained—which is impressive for any lodging, but especially so for a beautiful, historic structure. What truly elevates The White Doe Inn, though, are the thoughtful little touches: fresh daily cookies waiting in the foyer, incredible homemade ice cream sandwiches stocked in the auxiliary kitchen, plush robes in the room, and so much more. Most importantly, the heartfelt hospitality of David and Tonia is what sticks out the most. Despite their busy schedules running the inn, they both took time out of their days to sit down and converse with us. It is the kind of genuine, warm connection you simply cannot find at a standard hotel. They are incredibly kind people who are deeply intent on making sure you have everything you need. We had a wonderful anniversary and will absolutely be returning to The White Doe Inn!

Absolutely loved our stay at the White Doe Inn! The room was clean and comfortable and the hospitality was outstanding. Tonia and Dave are so warm and welcoming and every 'little' detail made the stay special. Breakfast was superb, down to the homemade scones, cookies and biscuits. We will return for sure and highly recommend this quaint B&B for your stay in the future. We'd rate it a '10' ! The Kerlers, Wimauma, FL
