Ocracoke Island Airport

Ocracoke Island Airport is a small, National Park Service-managed airstrip just off NC-12 (Irvin Garrish Highway), close to the village center. There's no bridge or road onto Ocracoke — every other way in is a boat, whether that's the free hour-long ferry from Hatteras village or the longer toll ferries from Cedar Island and Swan Quarter on the mainland. For pilots with their own aircraft, this airstrip is the one shortcut: land here and you can be in the village, near Silver Lake Harbor, within minutes, no boat involved.

Like the ferries, this strip is weather-dependent. Ocracoke has no road evacuation route, so hurricane season (June through November, with the real risk window August through October) can ground flights and suspend ferry service at the same time, sometimes on short notice.
