About

Ocracoke Island Airport is a small, National Park Service-managed airstrip just off NC-12 (Irvin Garrish Highway), close to the village center. There's no bridge or road onto Ocracoke — every other way in is a boat, whether that's the free hour-long ferry from Hatteras village or the longer toll ferries from Cedar Island and Swan Quarter on the mainland. For pilots with their own aircraft, this airstrip is the one shortcut: land here and you can be in the village, near Silver Lake Harbor, within minutes, no boat involved.

Like the ferries, this strip is weather-dependent. Ocracoke has no road evacuation route, so hurricane season (June through November, with the real risk window August through October) can ground flights and suspend ferry service at the same time, sometimes on short notice.

A very beach-y airport. There are no proper toilets, but there are portable toilets on site. Amazing approach and landing. Five minute walk from the beach. Definitely bring your own tie downs or chocks.

A nice little airport with about 1/2 mile walk to Howard's Pub and the public tram throughout the rest of town. Runway is smooth although it has lots of weeds that need some attention by a torch. There are a lot of parking spots but few with serviceable tie down ropes so bring your own if you are staying for more than a few hours. Also recommend bringing a set of wheel chocks. Most of the pad eyes have been filled in with dirt and contain weeds so they need to be cleaned. One can contact several bike rental services (Blackbeard's lodge being one) which will drop bikes at the airport for your use and pick them up after you leave. Lot's of golf carts on the island so I suspect one of the rental groups would do the same. Fun place to you for the $100 dollar hamburger.

Looks like the coolest airfield ever. Seems to be operated by the National Park Service.

Very nice airport on the beach, no parking fee, NO FUEL, bike trail to the entire island just outside the airport, restaurant 1/2 away from the airport, best Mahi mahi sandwich.
