Roanoke Island Taxi

Local, phone-ahead taxi service for getting around Manteo and Roanoke Island without a rental car

Manteo, NC

About

Roanoke Island Taxi is a local transportation service based in Manteo, on the Roanoke Island side of the Outer Banks — the part of the island reached by crossing the Washington Baum Bridge from Whalebone Junction, a genuinely different setting from the barrier-island beach towns strung along the coast to the east. Manteo's downtown, wrapped around Shallowbag Bay, is compact and walkable on its own, but the island's historic sites on the north end and the lodging scattered around town aren't always within easy walking distance of each other or of downtown itself.

That gap is where a local taxi service is useful: a ride into downtown Manteo for dinner, a lift out toward the historic area, or simply a way to get around without renting a car for a short stay on the island. There's no website listed for Roanoke Island Taxi, so calling ahead directly is the way to arrange a ride rather than expecting a cab to be waiting on the street.

We had a personal issue with our own vehicle and needed a ride back to Kitty Hawk. Butch was great to work with and was helpful getting us back to where we needed to be in a very stressful time. We would recommend to anyone who needs taxi service in this area.
